Symbolism of Authority
Did you observe the 3 pieces on either side of the phoenix coronet? We call temple ornaments (Chinese: bóbìn, the 'wings' at the sides and back of the coronet). In ancient times, it was a symbol of power, Only the empress’s coronet having 6 blades of temple ornaments (3 on each side), while the coronet princess can only have 4 blades of temple ornaments (2 on each side). On both sides of the coronet are embroidered with three temple ornaments, fan-shaped left and right, with white silk threads embroidered dots of white pearls, with emerald silk threads embroidered inlaid plum-blossom gems. Using white silk thread, pearls are embroidered as decorations.
Delving into Cultural Artistry
There are a total of eighteen short fringes hanging in the front of the coronet, while symmetrically, four long fringes adorn each side, culminating in eight in total. Additionally, if we include the two small long fringes at the top, there are a total of ten tassels. In Chinese culture, the number 8 is revered for its auspicious connotations, signifying luck and prosperity, while the number 10 symbolizes perfection and completeness, often representing "perfect in every way". Each long fringe is embroidered with jade jewels and beads arranged in strings resembling small lotus buds, symbolizing the notion that "each step brings forth lotus blooms", used to describe the woman's graceful, elegant, and beautiful demeanor as she moves with light steps.
