Essex Ⅱ 52 in Indoor/Outdoor LED Smart Ceiling Fan with Light Remote

Q: Does the Essex II 52" wall switch use batteries?

No. The Essex II 52" wall switch is hardwired into your home's circuit, so it never needs batteries, and it connects with two wires, brown to the hot and black to the fan, with no neutral needed in the wall box. Turn off the breaker before wiring, or hire a licensed electrician if you're unsure.

Q: Can I hang the Essex II 52" on a sloped porch ceiling?

Yes, on slopes up to 27°, with no extra parts needed. The Essex II 52" comes with a 4.5" downrod and a built-in angled mount, and it's damp-rated for covered porches and patios while working just as well indoors in living rooms and bedrooms.

Q: What does the Essex II 52" add over the original Essex 52"?

A hardwired wall switch and Full Power-Off Memory, alongside the remote, app and voice control. Both are 52" damp-rated downrod fans that install on sloped ceilings up to 27°. If you don't need a wall control, see the original Essex 52".

Q: Can I use the Essex II 52" remote and wall switch together?

Yes. The Essex II 52" comes with both a remote and a wall switch, and either one controls the fan at any time, so you can keep the remote by your chair and the switch by the door. The remote gives all 10 speeds; the wall switch covers 5 speeds, reverse and the light.

Q: Which wood finishes does the Essex II 52" come in?

The Essex II 52" comes in Wood and Walnut, both with reversible plywood blades that show a different wood tone on each side, so you can pick the look during installation. Paired with a matte black housing, the natural wood grain gives a modern farmhouse look that also suits rustic and contemporary rooms.

Q: My ceiling is 10 ft. Which extension downrod fits the Essex II 52"?

A 14" Carro DC extension downrod. The Essex II 52" ships with a 4.5" downrod for 8–9 ft ceilings; for taller rooms use 24" for 11 ft or 36" for 12 ft, up to 70" for 16 ft. Use one Carro downrod in the right length, as other brands may not fit.

Q: What size room is the Essex II 52" made for?

Rooms of 145–300 sq ft, such as living rooms, primary bedrooms and medium covered patios. The Essex II 52" moves up to 5,000 CFM across 10 speeds and reaches a maximum of 58 dB only on its top speed.

I read the good reviews and we took a chance and bought three of these fans to replace our home's 25-year old malfunctioning Hunter fans. The assembly and installation process was easy and smooth. I really appreciate the care and thought that went into design and packaging. Little things like being able to use the removed piece of MDF from the lighting kit side to turn over and set the motor base on the box it ships in, because of a perfectly placed hole that allows the wiring to feed through and the motor to sit perfectly for assembly. The hardware bagged by step was so helpful in making it clear what parts to use for each step. Even the design of the blade brackets and how they all interlock together perfectly when installed on the motor. Installation was a breeze - plenty of holes on the hanging bracket, and the ability to put the fan in place securely while hooking up the wiring was a welcome change from our previous fans - taking them down felt far more dangerous than installing these new ones! Pairing remotes was flawless as was setting up the smart function of the fans. I did each one as we installed them - if you have the remote handy and batteries installed when you turn the breaker back on, you can be ready to pair the remote right away (instead of having to go back down and cycle the breaker - we learned that one the hard way on fan #1). Tip for folks who may use the Google Home app - the lights load up as white light and yellow light - if you name them with the same name, plus one and two, you can control both aspects of the light as one (for example, couch fan one and couch fan two allows you to say, "turn on the couch fan light" and it will come on with the mixed warm/cool light). They work great, and on the whole, I'm delighted and hope they last for many, many years!

Hi Lindsay, Thank you so much for sharing your thoughtful review. We’re thrilled to hear the installation was smooth, the packaging thoughtful, and that the design details made setup easier. It’s great to know the remote pairing workflow and Google Home tip were helpful. We appreciate your kind words and hope the fans bring you many years of quiet comfort. Kind regards, Team SmaFan.com
